It's a beautiful book, but it is not in English and Chinese. Very disappointing.

wonderful book

We bought this at the Seattle exhibition of the terracotta warriors at Pacific Science Center. My daughter loves it. Our edition is only in English. I suspect that the fact that we saw the exhibit together helps pique her interest, but the story is very nice and I don't think that having specific familiarity with the terracotta warriors is necessary for a child to enjoy the book.

Don't buy if you're looking for a bilingual book. Extremely disappointing.

This book seems like it was rushed into print, a document fresh out of Microsoft Word. The copyright information and document version number appear at the beginning of each chapter, on the bottom of the page. Frequent grammatical errors abound in this book. Some of the logical sequencing in the book seems incomplete. Basically it is a manuscript that needs further revision before publishing.I think $25 is a little too much to ask for a manuscript.I have never had any trouble with Apress before, and Apress is my favorite publisher for tech content, so I am definitely willing to give them the benefit of the doubt.

Provides a quick on-ramp into the world of APIs -- that much is appreciated.However, I found that the labs/exercises have many holes -- the code won't work as given. I went to the book's github and found the code there, but still had to patch several things after reading half a dozen stackoverflow articles. I still can't get the lab from chapter 6 to work....Finally, a word to Amazon. I consume a lot of technical books via Kindle, and I always run into the same issue: figures and graphics are very hard to read. Even on a large PC screen, I can't read some of the figures, leading to painful guesswork. This can't be so hard to fix -- give us legible graphics!

If you'd like to pay money for the same information already available on Wikipedia for free... well then buy this book. Otherwise I'd recommend saving your money.

The Gender War by Bella Forrest has taken a turn from the last few books. The connection between Viggo and Violet has grown and they've begun to trust each other more than ever. However their disagreements with others can send them running for their lives. The pages are filled with action and difficult decision making that Violet has to sort through. WIth every step she has carried her determination and stubbornness that won’t let the future seem dark. Always looking forward, with their chins up high, Viggo and Violet stomped through the worst flames and never stopped. I really enjoyed the conflict in this book and the creative ways that they were solved. My favorite part of this book is the point of view and how every few chapters the perspective is changed from Viggo and Violet.Forrest, just like in her previous books, has continued to drag readers in with her interesting word choice and unusual inventions from the rivaling countries. Matris and Patris have been disturbed by the intruding of the outsiders that don’t believe a certain gender is better or more worthy than the other. The disturbance has caused many descriptive fights with horrendous results. The fights has formed allied groups, and the partnerships have rockey starts.Overall my favorite part of the book, The Gender War, is the relationships and bonds shared by characters. With every chapter the mood of the relationships change. From being friends to becoming enemies, Violet and the crew have felt it all. My most favored relationship is between Violet Bates and Viggo Croft, their heart throbbing love story grows throughout the book bringing more excitement to read the next one. To conclude I fully recommend The Gender War to any reader and readers who enjoy action and romance.

I have enjoyed the storyline but a couple things bug me. I don't like how Viggo is so submissive. He's a Patrian and a warden. Do you really think he wouldn't have more leadership skills? Also, everyone is taking directions from a girl who is 19-20 years old. She has the least experience of all the rebels. I liked Viggo's strong personality from the first book. He seems kind of wimpy and indecisive now.

This is the best book of the series (so far)!! I have pre-ordered the next installment and cannot wait to find out what happens next. This series is well thought out and though the first book begins rather slowly, by midway through the first book the pace quickens. The momentum gained carries through the remainder of the books, slowing just enough for the characters --and reader-- to catch their breath.Some MIGHT consider the next bits spoilers so I will pause a bit*****************************************I hope the King comes to his senses and sees Violet's value!!I know the next book is written, but am dearly hoping Viggo doesn't have to suffer anymore.I want to know how the embryo in the egg stays alive. The suspense is driving me crazy.

WHAT! YOU DO NOT END A BOOK LIKE THAT! I NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS!I know I only have to wait two weeks for the next book, I've waited much long than that, but why? I need it right now because that ending was just awful (in a good way), and there's so much at stake and I just need to know that my babies are going to be okay. Is that too much to ask?The Gender War start off immediately where the last book left us. Violet and Viggo have been taken by the queen and now are being prepared for torture and then execution. They are both trying to figure out how to escape, but with the leader of the rebellion being a spy for the queen it looks as if there's no hope, but that doesn't mean they'll stop trying.We barely get a break throughout this book, it's just one intense scene after another and nobody is safe. My heart was pounding and I was screaming internally because at every moment my babies were being put in danger and if anything happened to them I would be cursing the author's name the rest of my life.The characters continue to be awesome and character development is mind blowing. I continue to love Violet and Viggo and their relationship, but I also love seeing the new character and how they have now weaved into Violet and Viggo's life. There are characters I didn't trust from the last books I love now, there are character I hate more and more with every appearance they make, and in then end there are even more on my list who must make it to the end.I love everything about this series and I need the next book in my hands right now because I need to know what has happened to my babies. That ending was so sad and so not promising for a happy ending. WHY? WHY? WHY?!The star rating got knocked down because of this one scene at the very ending I wasn't pleased with. At the very ending Violet is fight Tabitha and there's a guard trying to shoot Violet down. Tabitha wants Violet all to herself and rips the guys arm off. No, she didn't break it, she didn't dislocate it, she actually RIPPED THE WHOLE ARM OFF! This was really gritty and disturbing, I didn't think it was realistic or necessary and could have completely done without this scene. I would give this book a five star rating, but I couldn't with that scene, it was just too much.I would rate this 14+. Violence wise there was definitely enough of it, including at the very beginning Violet being tortured in a horrible way and the scene included above. This book is definitely not for the faint of heart, but is still an awesome book and I recommend to anybody who loves a great dystopian series.There's a couple of kissing scenes, but they aren't anything more than that and I believe at one point they kind of hint at wanting more.Awesome series and I'm anxiously awaiting the next book. March 31 can't come soon enough.

Interesting series although it is getting a bit too long and usually 3-4 books suits me better rather than waiting forever for the conclusion to the series. I will keep reading for now but the story gets a bit slow in places and the characters seem repetitive at times with their predictable behaviour. I stopped reading the Shade series after awhile as it just dragged on with no real story line just similar themes to previous books in the series.

Although Amber Tamblyn is better known as a very talented actress, she is a gifted poet as well. The poems in this book are full of insight and intelligence with a grace and uniqueness of its own. I highly recommend this book to others who appreciate a new voice in poetic form.

Of course, I have followed Amber Tamblyn on TV. Her poetry is fresh, and contains ideas as well as imagery. It's not highly crafted, but isn't amateurish either.

Although Amber has been published in small presses before; publication of this book marks her big press debut. And what a debut it is! The poems are mature beyond her age. They are personal and universal -- a feat accomplished by few poets. Her feminism shines beautifully through her honest lines. This is a book that you will read again and again. The only fault is with the publisher trying to market her with the 'Young Adult' market. Fine, young adults targeted in a culture of 'shop till you drop' should read these poems, but this book can be enjoyed by all. Her voice is loud and clear. All those with ears will hear.

I enjoyed the book. better than a bio about her because I feel I know or understand her now. she's not a bad poet.

A poetry book is rare when it comes to celebrities. Very few to my knowledge have ventured out and dared to have a secondary interest to their number one talent. In Amber Tamblyn however, you'll find something even more of a rarity. You'll quickly discover that this book, while short in pages, will not sell anyone short in spirit or impact - fan or otherwise. This book does not exist simply to turn a quick buck, like so many others might. Instead it is streaks ahead of its competition with it's admirable abandon and passion only Amber Tamblyn can impart beautifully to the reader with such vigor, desire, humour, and heartbreak. So when Amber embarks on this journey you'll have no other choice but to be swept up into it.I enjoy writing poems as well mostly of a movie orientated fashion. It is a real joy to welcome Amber into this form of writing. To find a unique artist like Amber Tamblyn, who really has a tremendous vision and rare understanding and appreciation of who she is, and who she will become, is totally refreshing to me and special. This poety is indelible and is unequeled like my ever increasing love for her and everything she does.Before reading Amber Tamblyn's incredible works of poetry enclosed in 'Free Stallion', I also read singer/songwriter Jewel Kilcher's 'A Night Without Armour' poem book. I admore the way Jewel uses her fine poetry skills in songs. The wonderful thing about poetry is there is nothing quite like it. It would be wrong of me to compare these two books so I appreciate them equally. I feel very blessed to have read this collection of poems. It is clear both Jewel and Amber have something very beautiful to share with the world, so the poetic power they pocess should never be taken lightly. It is a real gift. Every poem is worth the paper it is written on, and everone's voice should have a chance to be heard. I do hope you enjoy the poems within where Amber puts people at the centre of her work, and her mind is free to wonder without restraints.

I bought this book even though it's being marketed as "teen literature." I've admired Amber Tamblyn ever since I saw her act on Joan of Arcadia (...) and in Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. But here you get a glimpse at the real woman inside, and though young she is mature, intelligent, feisty, and strong. My favorite of the poems are the ones that rail against the cultural stereotype of what the ideal female body type is supposed to be. She's an excellent role model for today's young people in a world that so desperately needs them.

Sandra Scofield is the author of seven novels, including Beyond Deserving, a finalist for the National Book Award, and A Chance to See Egypt, winner of a Best Fiction Prize from the Texas Institute of Letters. She has written a memoir, Occasions of Sin, and a book of essays about her family, Mysteries of Love and Grief: Reflections on a Plainswoman’s Life. She is also the author of a previous book on the craft of writing, The Scene Book: A Primer for the Fiction Writer. Scofield is on the faculty of the Solstice MFA Program in Creative Writing at Pine Manor College and has for many years taught in the University of Iowa Summer Writing Festival.

This is a wonderful book if you're serious about making your book the best it can be (and getting it published). After you finish your first draft, you typically have a mixture of pretty good stuff, a few plot holes, some bad writing, some flat characters -- where do you even start? Scofield breaks revision into manageable chunks, and she shows, with plenty of examples, how to deal with each one. She's a writer (with seven novels), a teacher, an editor, and a friendly voice on the page to help you get over the hump. This book, along with my dogeared copy of Scofield's "The Scene Book," is my favorite craft book ever. P.S. My first novel, which Scofield helped me revise, is scheduled for publication in spring 2019.

Scofield is a fan of the physical act of revision—incorporating hard copies of the draft, color-coded index cards and lots of exploration of the “What ifs?” For all of her published works and literary accolades, she is still able to return to her beginner’s mind and speak to the emerging writer with clarity and compassion. Reading this book was like having a warm (and wise) mentor at my elbow.

Meandering and unorganized. A bit wordy and not organized like most writing technique books. I learned a a few things, but not as much as I’d hoped. She would say things like “To get this concept, just talk through novel after novel to yourself or with a friend.” If I wanted reading books to teach me everything I don’t know, then why did I buy your book? Makes no sense when writers are lazy with their teaching like this.

This book was a godsend while completing my manuscript.What I love best about Sandra’s guidebooks are the love she shows for readers and writers, how committed she is to helping writers find their path. Whether you are ready to pitch your book or just figure out how to arrange chapters, this book helps you and never leaves you in the dark. The author encourages you to break down your novel like an architect, step away from it and view it from an outside angle. With so many exercises to choose from, a writer might be tempted to skim over some, but don’t - that is where the alchemy begins. By the end you may look at your own work, slap your head and said, “Of course! That’s exactly it.”As much as I enjoyed the Scene Book (a staple for writers) THE LAST DRAFT brings novel writing to another level.

I think the one that has helped me the most is the suggestion to make up my mind that no matter what, I am not going to argue. Before reading this Kindle book I didn't really understand how to have more self control. This book has provided specific direction on how I can quit arguing altogether. Although, I have still been fighting, I am not fighting as much as I was before reading this Kindle book. This means that I have made some progress, which the author says is a good thing. Amber says that change takes time and that I am not always going to do everything perfectly. I have learned how to forgive myself quickly when I do slip and argue. I have also been starting over with new beginnings through letting go of past events.

Stop Arguing. Now. How to Stop Arguing: Dealing with Stress, Anger, Rejection, Conflict, Fighting and Difficult People by Amber Rain is a great tool to help those in a bad situation. Also as it states in the disclaimer: you should adjust your use of the information and recommendations provided accordingly considering that no two situations are exactly alike. Also, I like the formatting of this book. Instead of chapters and long sections or paragraphs and prose, there is simply a list of tips. Though long, the list is quite effective. I am glad that this focuses on you as opposed to your argument partner. The tips can be used in practically every situation and during my reading I can recognize things I have done. The best tip of all is number forty nine in my opinion, just do not skip ahead to read it; all of the tips are really good.

Anyone who has been in any kind of relationship knows that people argue sometimes. Arguing can be healthy, if it's done in a way that is constructive instead of harmful, but when a couple argues too much, there is a problem. This book has a lot of great advice for people on how to deal with issues that cause anger and arguing to crop up between a couple.While I don't have much of a temper problem, I like to read books like this one in order to keep these kinds of helpful reminders fresh in my mind. One of the things I have observed over the years is that a lot of hurt feelings and arguing stem from pride and selfishness. Arguments happen less often when you take into consideration the other persons feelings over your own. Compromise is at the heart of any good relationship, and if you or your partner are each demanding their own way all the time, people are going to feel things like stress, rejection, and anger. While some anger can be a good thing (it tells us when someone has crossed a boundary we don't like) there are ways to minimize how explosive that anger can be.Learning to control your own self, and take responsibility for your own emotions and not let them control you, is one way to minimize arguing. This book helps the reader to explore their gut reactions and learn how to overcome them in a more healthy way, so that there is less conflict in the relationship. In my opinion, every person should read this book at some point in their lives.

I am a mom, girlfriend, daughter, and entertain several bosses through various jobs. There is not a day that goes by unless I am wholly by myself, locked in the bathroom, that I don't feel stressed. I try to plan out a weeks worth of life for a few different people while dealing with the day to day curve balls that life always seems to throw.I needed to find something to help me get myself in order, and Amber always seems to have something great. While the books does lean more towards arguments and keeping from fighting, it does help connect with stress. Sometimes when you have too much pent up stress every conversation can become a fight, and you hurt people along the way without thinking about. "How to Stop Arguing" helped me realize I could take the time in my conversations, not just give out rapid fire answers. When you slow down, and think about what you are doing, you find it easier to deal with everything around you.Amber's book helped me find better ways to say my thoughts, and helped me become more positive in my dealings. When I am positive, I find that others around me are happy as well! While the stress isn't completely gone, I found that I am breath a little lighter, and deal with a lot more curve balls.

The self-control to do this takes a lot of practice and if you must respond then you should keep in mind is what you say true, kind, and necessary. By practicing some of the tips in the book you can be well on your way to not arguing and sometimes even defusing an argument before it even starts. Remember one thing once you have said something hurtful you can never take it back so sometimes silence is golden.

This was a quick read. There are some tools to help one deal with anger and fighting presented. I think being prepared to cope when things go awry would be great. Perhaps there is something helpful for anyone struggling with bickering inside this short book. Now I will reread it to try to add ideas more concretely when fussing is going on.

I liked studying this book. I will try some of its suggestions for dealing properly with somewhat rude relatives. I find it hard sometimes to keep quiet while the other person nags. I also want to cut back on nagging. I laughed at one part: "Use your head." I wish this book wasn't so short, though. It felt like a pair of petite pants.
