I am the Executive Director of a small nonprofit with a Board of only 10 members.After attending a Board Governance conference, I returned to the office with more ideas than I could keep in my head. I ordered this little book and although I haven't read it page for page, it covers a great deal that was discussed in the conference. Before the next Board Retreat, I am thinking of ordering a book for each Board Member. Chapters cover most of the Board positions, but the value for me were the Appendices. I highly recommend this book for encouragement, ideas, and hopes that your Board works at its best level.

I ran (unsuccessfully) for a BoD position in a non-profit to which I belong, and really wanted to see information about the business of a board. In that way, this book was excellent.The assumption, though, is that all BoD are run well, and that they recognize the BUSINESS of the non-profit as well as its mission. Sadly, I find many don't. Many focus so much on the mission that they end up being inefficient, particularly in long-range planning and in budgeting. I see it over and over. The one in which I ran for office, for example, has no problem raising money, but has no concept of an operating budget and no interest in changing any business processes. Others I've seen spend so much time on fundraising that the mission sometimes suffers, or burn out volunteers with constant demands of the same few.I hope to find solutions. This book helped focus my thinking, but sadly more on what we need than on how I can help do it.

There are a TON of books out there about nonprofits & Boards & how to build a Board. Most are impractical for small nonprofits that don't have the bandwidth to implement even a fraction of their suggestions. Little Book of Boards is written specifically for a small nonprofit with one, maybe two employees. It's also for someone who's thinking about joining a Board, wants to join a Board, just started on a Board but with absolutely no Board experience. Erik wrote a thoroughly engaging book about a fictional small nonprofit & its newest Board Member that's easy to follow & completely realistic in incorporating into the fabric of my nonprofit.

Overall, this is a good book for very small nonprofits, encompassing the concerns of the board. It is well-organized and covers the spectrum of concerns in an easy-to-read manner. Further while it does cover dealing with a paid executive director, most of the material remaining is applicable to all volunteer organizations (AVO's).While the personal experiences of the author add to the flavor of the book's material, the text could have utilized more industry references and statistics to support the claims within. There remains a question of how well the suggestions would work outside the specific experience range of the author unfortunately, without such references. Further, the author admits to his bias as a past executive director and with some of the recommendations for nonprofit boards, such as the close interaction between the executive director and board chair in guiding overall strategy of an organization (as compared to other board members and the board chair, that bias is glaring.Still, the scope of activity and structure within it should make this a worthwhile resource for volunteers considering becoming board members and for those newly appointed in those roles. Overall, I recommend it.

This is a must read for anyone who is considering joining a non-profit board or someone who is already on a board. Gives you first hand information for the inner workings, your responsibilities as a board member, and what is normally expected of a board member.

Loved this book and wish I'd discovered it when I first got involved with my small non-profit. But I'm President now and I still found it useful. I wish I could give a copy to every new trustee.

Excellent resource. Practical, applied and proven information, not just theory. My board experience had me agreeing with most of the suggestions offered.

Very informative, but still enjoyable to read. This is a great book for those who don't know much about boards. Hanberg lays out the basics with clear examples and explanations. Comprehensive enough to not leave you hanging, and simple enough for it to be a practical tool.

I became a fan of Robert Anton Wilson after reading the Illuminatus Trilogy, which is by far the most mind bending bible of literal bull**** I have read in my life. The themes and scenarios depicted in the book were some of the most thought provoking and out there ideas I have ever taken from a novel. That being said it was a novel, and primarily just for ****s and giggles. This book however is more informative and definitely shows more of RAWs idealogies, which I'm sure anyone who has read The Illuminatus and liked it might be curious of. The book essential debriefs on 8 circuits of consciousness humans can, potentially, climb through as they grow and become more aware in life. The model is adopted from Dr. Timothy Leary, as he gives credit to in the book, but he does say and acknowledge that he applies his own thought to its interpretation. The concept of the 8 consciousness circuits definitely gives some strong insight onto the behavior of much of our species, especially describing a mass of the population as stuck on lower circuits, simply living just to eat, poop, work and ultimately meet the goal of giving birth and then falling back onto an eat/poop/work cycle until death. The book is definitely a psychological work, and while I am no psychologist or claim/ aspire to be, Wilson does a really good job putting his ideas into laymans terms, most simply by always bringing out the humorous side of any topic. Again, I'm not a psychologist, and don't want to claim this book as a serious recommendation for anyone seeking to study psychology, but its view points are definitely abstract and will make you question how your own mind is thinking at times.

Robert Anton Wilson, the human alarm clock. This book has provided me with a great understanding of the 8 circuit model of consciousness. I purchased the 2016 2nd edition by Hilaritas Press. Highly recommended book if an individual wants to have a model on their consciousness. The energy is there...dormant, waiting...but it's up to the individual to tap into it.

Until his death this past Spring of 2007, Robert Anton Wilson continued to prefer Leary's 8-Circuit Model as the best rough description of stages of development of consciousness, which he originally refined in the early 80's. While sarcastic and purposefully absurd at times, his viewpoints are nevertheless helpful in assisting us to look beyond our present, comfortable "reality tunnels", to considering alternatives. In order for us to evolve in consciousness, we must change it, and changing it can be uncomfortable (and potentially dangerous in many ways).Oliver Wendell Holmes said "A mind stretched around a new idea never regains its original demensions" - this book, when studied and thoughtfully applied, can be a set of maps for new territory. I found "Prometheus" to be a fascinating essay from a prolific, controversial writer -worth the effort.

I'll say right upfront that I thought that this book has some strange stuff in it in places, but readers should put that aside long enough to read through the whole thing. Don't let the cover art put you off either, readers; I know that the green guy creeped me out, but he is not really mentioned in the text. This book is well worth reading.I found this book while looking around for something easy to get through on General Semantics. However, it is mostly concerned with the eight neurological circuits (bio-survival, emotional-territorial, semantic, moral, neurosomatic, neurogenetic, metaprogramming and quantum) that Timothy Leary was big on - don't panic, there is no need to do LSD to understand what is going on here. The author also includes discussion on other topics like yoga and quantum mechanics (no math required here) as well as on many interesting subjects that I for one had never heard of before as he goes along. If they are like me, readers will give wikipedia a real workout right after finishing each chapter to learn more on many of these topics. There are very thought provoking exercises as well - I still haven't found any quarters, but I may have not tried hard enough yet. It may take some people a while to get through the book as a result, but it is worth the time to do the outside study as needed and to do the exercises.The author spends a lot of time on the first 4 circuits and less on the others which is understandable I guess as the latter are newer and less understood. The chapters on brainwashing are frightening and probably all too accurate - readers might want to give these some more thought after finishing them. There is much more presented that warrants further thinking by readers as well. For example, one might get some insight into why certain people that they know behave as they do and maybe even gain some insight as to their own behavior as well. As the book winds up, the author presents some ideas about where we might be heading as individuals and as a species; some of his predictions did not come true, at least not yet, but there seems to be a ring of truth at least in much of this.I found the book a little disorganized in many spots, but readers should be able to follow it for the most part anyway. I did find several apparent errors in the book early on, but noticed fewer as it went. Please note that sometimes at least it seems that the author meant melancholic when he wrote choleric - this may save some readers a lot of time trying to figure out Chapter 4.Despite some real strangeness and disorganization here and there, most readers probably will learn a great deal from this book - at least if they are ready. If anyone wonders what I mean by that, they will have to read the book.Highly recommended, but be prepared as there may be some shocks.

I bought this book after hearing many good things about it. I mainly expected to read a book regarding sociology and psychology, written by a very well-liked author. This was the first Robert Anton Wilson book I ever read, so I wasn't quite sure what to expect. This book did not meet my expectations, it far exceeded them. Never before has a book produced such change in my way of thinking. My brain was literally completely reprogrammed after reading Prometheus rising. Every facet of thought that goes through my mind is different. I treat people differently. This is because I genuinely feel that I understand others, and myself much better now. I could not reccomend any book more highly than this. Also reccomended is the sequal, Quantum Psychology.

This is one of the handful of books that really changed how I lived.

Talk about an amazing product...I love this condensed book!! As a kid, the Miss Nelson book series was always my favorite and for years I tried to get my daughter into enjoying the stories; however, she was always enamored with the "There was an old lady...." Series and my son anything Pete the Cat. Needless to say, this year my daughter went to kindergarten, read a Miss Nelson book in class and fell in love! Since I ordered this book, I literally have had to read this book to my 3 year old son and 5 year old daughter EVERY SINGLE Day W/NO SKIP A DAY PASSES....lol. The kids wish that the books were individual but as parents with a home filled with a gazillion books, a condensed book was right our alley. The book is the perfect size (larger for viewing in a huddle), very durable, great value, seller shipped fast, item was packaged properly and the book is downright amazing. I love that 33 years later from my kindergarten era, I am now creating memories with dramatic reads of the Miss Nelson series with my babies!! Don't hesitate to buy this book, the kids will love it and it's a great way to get them to fall in live with reading....happy reading!!

Viola Swamp is just as I remembered from elementary school. Every year our librarian would dress up as Coach Swamp, and I was thrilled to be able to share these stories with my own children. So excited to have all three books in one spine. My 5 year old twins (and 2 year old son) love reading "Miss Nelson" at bedtime.

Love this book and wanted to give it as a gift but unfortunately, there's a tear on the front cover, the jacket of the book is folded at the top and the back of the cover has some kind of sticky residue on it. I can't give it as a gift as this book looks used.

I loved this series growing up so it was only natural that I get them for my 4 year old. Turns out my 12 yr old loves these stories more than me. So there was this argument over who would read them to the 4 yr old. Lol! So we've been taking turns reading and listening to these stories. I will say that Viola Swamp is my favorite character.

I had my own copy of 'Miss Nelson is Missing' when I was little that I had recently shared with my daughter. And just like me, she loved it. We decided to look and see if there were any other Miss Nelson books and found this one. We both were so excited when we received it - and then sad once we finished the book. (We paced ourselves and read one book each night before bed.) They're such cute stories, each with a little twist!

My daughter loves this collection! We read either one or two of the stories at night time; this is her go-to when she doesn’t know which book she wants to pick, so it’s back to “the swamp” usually. I highly recommend this book to those of you reading the reviews and are on the fence. It’s an oldie, but a goodie for sure.

This book contains the three Miss Nelson stories. I remember them so well from my childhood. Whenever my dad would take me & my siblings to the library, we would race to find these books.I recently gave it to a friend at her baby shower, along with some other classics, and the gift was a big hit.
