This book is a fantastic reference of the Matilda I and II in the France 40 campaign. It has a ton of pictures, most of which I've never seen. It also has detailed color plates for 7 vehicles, providing a short paragraph on the vehicle and shows their markings. In the Appendix is a table with all the tanks from the 4th and 7th battalions listed with their names, T Serial numbers, Veh Reg Num, Company, and Section. Some of the table info is incomplete since it was not verifiable and they list how the info was verified (photo, movie, etc). An excellent resource for the model builder or anyone interested in the BEF.

This is a great book. It shows many animals that eat bugs and even shows different bugs people around the world eat at the end. I always looked up videos of people eating bugs to show them afterwards. There are some great ones showing how people find and eat grubs in Australia. It has simple text that any Pre-K teacher can appreciate.

I'd have fived this, but, I'd have liked to see more on people eating bugs. Good overview on how just about everything eats bugs, from plants to people. I used this for a public library storytime, following it up with meal worm rice krispy bars. It was fun.

I was looking for a book about preparing insects for emergency food. I'd been checking out other books about this and this book was in the middle of other legitimate books about insect preperation and meals. Guess what? didn't do my home work. This is a very short book about rhyming and bugs. A delight for 2nd graders, but not what I wanted. Advice to all...slow down and read the intro's.

My 2 year old son loves this book! The pictures are really great. The book is informative but also fun.

Set in rhyme, this is a great book with large, detailed illustrations. Honestly describes carnivorous creepy-crawlies (not too many details, though). Includes spiders with insects under broad group, all simply called ''bugs.'' Introduces concept of bug-eating humans in places ''where meat is scarce.'' Further explanation (without the confines of rhyme) is given at the end of the book in list form, beside thumbnail pictures of each page. Not for the VERY young (I carefully stressed to my 4 year old that the people who eat bugs prepare them first) or for the child still disturbed by animals eating each other.

For a few years, I kept buying and reading the novels out of habit, keeping up with the characters but always feeling let down by plot and characterizations. That was until I read this one. Cameron captured the key players very well, handled minor players and cameo appearances with skill not seen since Tom Clancy was doing the writing, and finally coming up with and executing a plot that had enough intricacy to be worthy of Clancy. Welcome back.

I won't give you the plot since you can read that elsewhere. I loved this book and I think it's the best Marc Cameron book in the Clancy series. A case can be made that it's the best non Tom Clancy book in any of the series.For the first time, I liked this Clancy representation as much as Cameron's wonderful Jericho Quinn books. Thankfully, he is a prolific writer and we get Jack Jr., Jericho, and a new character I'm looking forward to meeting.For a great story, read this book.

Very dissappointing. I stopped reading when I realized that I am at the midpoint of the book and still do not know the main story. The prose is full of cliches that are repeated much too often. A great number of irrelevant details are mentioned about each character and location—mentioned once and never appear again. We are told how tall each person is and how old he or she is, as if this were a medical insurance claim, and then no other reference is given to the age or height of the person. Why was it mentioned? Despite these details it is impossible to visualize or temember anything about the people in the book. There is no cohesion to the events. If a thousand students (or computers) were assaigned to write an episode each, the result would read like this novel. I should not even call it a novel: it is a steady stream of scenes with a great many names of people, streets, and organizations, and no plot that I could explain even though I have read half of the book.

The interwoven subplots, the pacing and the way the story slowly comes together and leads up to a tense, suspenseful fourth quarte, this book actually felt like Clancy himself could have written it. But Cameron does it in half the length. The book actually would have benefited if the subplots with the senator, the stand-off in Cameroon, and a few others were given more attention, but better to have too little than risk having too much going on and dragging the book out. Cameron is definitely a great choice to continue the Clancy novels, and he even surpasses Mark Greaney's later installments. Cameron's prose is even reminiscent of Clancy's writing, and he has a solid grasp of the characters and incorporates excellent research into the story. This is the best Clancy book since "Locked On" or "Threat Vector" and one of the best thrillers of 2018. If you're one of those readers who felt like the series has become tired and trite, do yourself a favor and read this one.

Anything w/Jack Ryan I like and I appreciated that about this book. I also like Mark Cameron and I read some of his books. However, there are parts of this that just seemed more Mark Cameron than Tom Clancy. Please note, I said parts because I read the whole darn thing. However, this let's keep publishing when someone passes away with someone else writing it I just don't understand. However, I'm the guilty fool who keeps buying it so I guess that explains it.

I’ve loved the Jack Ryan books and even watched the Amazon TV show. But this is too cute with too many subplots which are meaningless.And of course it ends as though the writer wanted to get on with another book. I could have made the ending so much more vibrant and exciting, but this ended with a DUD. Let’s get back to the Clancy we all loved in Hunt for the Red October and Patriot Games. Complicated single plots with very little sub action.

Marc Cameron depicts how Jack Ryan is an ideal President on “Oath Of Office.” The subject is antithetical to the real world politics. The book brims of episodes showing Jack’s leadership, decisiveness, diplomatic skills, willingness of taking other person’s opinion, and also affection to his subordinates. The President Ryan identified and crushed an Iranian leader’s evil plot of causing a satellite Armageddon. Of course, the story contains a usual many-sided activities by the Campus, and an impending danger on Jack Jr., which he escapes by the skin of his teeth. Cameron scatters various side stories with advance hints along the development of the main story. The book starts from where a Russian pilot, who has been fallen under suspicion of flying under the influence of liquor, began newly assigned flight. Next comes a movie-like scene, a drone control pilot fired a missile to a target in Afghanistan from a trailer parked in Creech, America. The Campus team members were carrying out their duty of watching Russian arms dealers in Portugal. Events seemed having no relation whatever at all drift toward a sinister scheme. Cameron’s way of story construction is thrilling. We ponder over his intention of quoting Machiavelli’s words in the preface, and of titling this book as “Oath Of Office.” Cameron demonstrates a danger of fake on-line motion pictures. Blindly believing the web, Cameroonian troupes encircled the American embassy. Rescuing an American hostage safely added another burden on the President’s shoulder. The president himself is a competent diplomat in controlling foreign politics. Understanding the background, he will not budge an inch. Every subordinates endeavor to fill in appropriate information to their commander in chief. Jack seems to have an innate hunch toward a crisis. He orders the special agent in charge to protect his political opponent, which leads to gain an information about a probable disaster. “Oath Of Office” exhibits a desirable manner as a leader. Cameron prepares a surprise to readers. Reemergence of Ysabel Kashani is an unlooked-for event to us all. She has been never spending a happy married life in London. Instead, she has been working for the UNODC in Afghanistan. She left for Russia with a newly recruited Russian double agent at the end of the story. A Russian spy conveyed a purposeful phrase to Jack,Jr., that he felt like their paths would cross again. Do they play some critical roles in the coming stories. Imagination swells with expectations.

I have read each and every one of the Jack Ryan Novels and I thank Marc Cameron for continuing on writing these and I hope he writes more of them. They are exciting and keep you reading.

A person close to Bill Gates (or at least used to) recommended this book to me originally.After reading The Art of the Start 1.0, I couldn't wait to pre-order the Art of the Start 2.0. This version is a comprehensive update based on 1.0. Not only it is very comprehensive in telling you what is required to do a start up in terms of legals, marketing, funding, partnering, how to set up a vision, etc, etc. Everything in this book is by experience. You get to learn from a guy who has been in every position, meaning from the employee perspective, from the point of view of a person in the garage trying to start a company, then how do you marketing your product, demo it to potential investor and he is also a VC so he can also tell you perspective from a VC. You get insight from end to end. More than that, he also put in a lot of references, so not just writing up his own stories.Before you go too deep into the details in starting up your own company, there are a couple key mindsets mentioned in the book that we all need to make it right.1. Make meaning -- make the world a better place. Instead of just thinking your startup would make a lot of money, try to make meaning first. Then everything shall follow.2. Always dream big but start from small. While your startup might be the next Fortune 100 company, and you own a lot of market share. But before that, you need to start from small and then build from there. Google started with a concept of inbound links would make it a better way for search. It is a small idea but eventually led to a new search engine and then they grew from there.In my opinion, having the right mindset in place is more important than knowing all the available action items. When you have the mindset, you will know how to choose the action items.

Funny thing about this book is that I stumbled upon it. I was initially convinced to read the Lean Startup. As usual, I thought I'd read a few critical Amazon reviews. All it took was the first review, and thanks to that random guy, I've enjoyed quite a wealth a knowledge. This is not to take away anything from the Lean Startup, in fact, I admit that I'm pretty biased since I haven't read it. But compared to many entrepreneurship books I've read in the past, none of them have had nearly as much content that was ACTIONABLE.For a guy with a background working in Silicon Valley, I had imagined most of the content wouldn't have been easily transferable. Yet, the author has managed to generalize his content so that it could relate to multiple industries. Granted, some of his recommendations focus more on product than service oriented businesses, but still useful nonethelesHe breaks down the startup journey into four blocks: conception, activation, proliferation and obligation. The topics that really hit home for me include: bootstrapping, positioning, pitching, recruitment, schmoozing, evangelism (without the religious connotations) and successful partnerships.Throughout his narrative, he meshed a sense of humor which made the flow quite smooth. He also managed to apply great and relevant quotes throughout his chapters. He ends the book with a bang, with an awesome afterword.My takeaway quotes: "The first follower is the one who transforms the lone nut into a leader.""Socialism never took root in America because the poor see themselves not as an exploited proletariat but as temporarily embarrassed millionaires." - John Steinbeck"You can't build a reputation on what you're going to do." - Henry Ford"The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people are so full of doubts." - Bertrand Russell

I have read almost every book Guy Kawasaki has written and enjoy his "cut to the chase" style. This new book follows this trend: you will get practical, actionable, specific and above all, up-to-date advice without having to wade through verbiage to find nuggets that you can actually use. Below is a fragment of the many take-aways from the book:1. Pick a name for your start up that has a "verb potential." Kawasaki provides a way to test this. Imagine, you use this advice and the name of your new start up enters the mainstream vernacular and becomes a verb. Wouldn't you be happy you thought of this before using a name that can't possibly have verb potential?2. The top ten mistakes entrepreneurs make and more important, how to fix them.3. So many speakers focus on the "What" and forget about the "So what"? The "So what?" is the significance of what you're saying because you can't assume that it's always self-evident. You need to connect the dots for people. Guy gives the two most powerful words in a pitch to handle the "So what?" question in your audience's mind.4. If you're thinking about crowdfunding, you will find help in this book including additional resources you can access.5. Kawasaki provides many examples for the advice he gives. For example, you will find three examples of what leading financial investors look for in financial projections. Also VERY useful is Kawasaki's edit of a 90-second pitch. It shows you a sample pitch he received, and how he edited it, including outlining the lessons to derive from his rewrite.6. He encourages you to abandon outmoded thinking - for example, why you should focus on your pitch when you first start and not waste time writing a business plan.7. Each section has "Recommended Reading" which is always useful.8. Real world advice on bootstrapping a start-up from someone who's been there and done that.9. On presenting your pitch. Kawasaki says: "You're going to win or lose in the first minute or so" -- This section includes valuable advice on how to hit the ground running and not waste that crucial first impression. Even though this is a book about pitching your new product or service, it's also a great resource for improving your speaking skills for any situation. "Make love to the microphone" how to get a standing ovation is a must-read section in that regard.10. How to build your team: everything from interview tips, to how to check references, to knowing the top lies told at interviews. This will hopefully save you a lot of expensive hiring mistakes.11. How to position your product in a more personal way because that's more powerful and makes it easier for potential customers to imagine how a product fills their need. Again, great examples, of "impersonal" and "personal" positioning12. Each section also has some useful exercises to get you thinking. It's like having a coach at your side.13. When is the best time to send an email? Research-based answers. Having the empathy not to attach files larger than 5 Mbs unless you have permission and why you can lose if you ignore such a simple, yet important rule that people break all the time.14. Another thing I love about Kawasaki's books is the proliferation of outside links to useful resources such as SocialBro, for example - a service for Twitter, to get reports on who follows you, to find new people to follow, and to determine how your content is doing.15. Important persuasion principles that can help you - put in context and with examples.If there is one sentence that for me sums up Kawasaki's ethos which permeates this book, and all his previous books, it's this: "The genesis of great companies is answering simple questions that change the world, not the desire to become rich." And one of his practical exercises is: "Complete this sentence: If your startup never existed , the world would be worse off because __________."Buy this book for yourself or give it as a gift. I just finished delivering a workshop to young innovators working on pitching their apps. I wished I had the book at the time. I would have given each person a copy.

It helps with my class

Incredibly well put.

Frances Esquibel Tywoniak's memoir about her youth in New Mexico, migrating to California's central valley in the 1940's, and navigating the Anglo vs. Mexican American culture, adolescence, discrimination against females in education in general and Mexican American students specifically, and her drive and fortitude to make it through high school and UC Berkeley were inspiring and sadly a little familiar. Enjoyed the read.

At several points throughout Migrant Daughter, I found myself asking aloud, 'Was this book even edited?' The writing is unsophisticated to say the least. Choppy sentences, incoherrent recollections, unnecessary tangents, and childish descriptions fill the pages of this never-ending autobiography. The poor writing even makes this book somewhat uninteresting. If you appreciate quality of writing at all, do not read Migrant Daughter. This book was required reading for a course in American autobiography and I questioned the professor's decision to include this.

The story of Frances E. Tywoniak is a very interesting and inspiring one, yet the writing of the book fails to meet the level of the story behind it. The writing in mediocre but I still believe Tywoniak's story is one that should be read.

About the Author

Patricia A. Heyman worked for years as a pastry chef in restaurant kitchens, for caterers, and as a freelance chef. Later, she taught Culinary Arts at Jefferson Community College, part of the University of Kentucky, where she became a tenured faculty member. During that time, she wrote approximately 25 magazine and newspaper articles on various subjects of cooking and baking. After moving to upstate New York, she taught culinary courses at the State University of New York (SUNY) at Cobleskill, before beginning to write textbooks. Published by Pearson Education, she has written two textbooks, International Cooking: A Culinary Journey (published in 2003) and American Regional Cooking: A Culinary Journey (published in 2009). The second edition of the International Cooking book was published in 2012; this is the third edition.

Rented this book as a requirement for my culinary course.... wish I could get my $53 back. This book is.... aweful. I wonder if the author is aware that other countries and civilizations existed before European colonization?! This book should be titled, "the history of European colonization".

Required book for a culinary class. While it has some decent reading in it, some of the recipes are downright terrible. If you have to get this book, save some money a buy a used copy.

It's a culinary textbook, what more is there to say?
