I consider myself a professional Rubyist and Clojarian by trade and have often dreamed of a world in which someone would optimally combine the best aspects of both languages while leaving as much as possible of the shortcomings of either behind. When Jose Valim introduced Elixir, I was excited about a ruby-like functional programming language on the Erlang VM. It wasn't until I read this book by Chris McCord that it became clear just how much of a master stroke Elixir's language design and implementation decisions were.This book is a straight-forward presentation of the basic building blocks for AST manipulation via Elixir Macros. Reading this book allowed me to feel immediately comfortable both leveraging metaprogramming techniques in my own code and reading/reviewing the metacode of others. The choice of examples is extremely helpful in grokking the basics and served as a reference for me whenever I would get stuck looking over more advanced code examples in the wild. Chris' encouragement to actually use macros (when appropriate) in general day-to-day programming is in pleasant contrast to the unfortunate "avoid using macros" party-line that tends to be echoed in the Clojure community.I read this book having read Colin Jones' Mastering Clojure Macros and taken Colin's class at Clojure/West. I consider both Metaprogramming Elixir and Mastering Clojure Macros must reads for AST-based metaprogramming and, although they cover metaprogramming in two entirely different languages, much insight can be gleaned from reading both.

Great book; recommend for advanced Elixir users and not people who are just picking up the language. Much of the macro writing involves manipulating Abstract Syntax Trees, which you most likely won't do unless you are writing a framework or just super skilled at Elixir and have the need to cut down on repetitive code.

The fact that the Elixir language is gaining popularity is a great thing, considering how good it is.The language itself is around for almost three years now, but only recently books are popping out.Learning by a guy who uses the language from its very beginning is a very different experience than struggling with books written by Elixir newbies (although experienced in other languages)...Chris is one of the former guys, having presented Elixir at RailsConf '14.He's also an experienced Ruby programmer, that's particularly useful from the meta-programming point of view.In case you are interested on the Erlang/OTP Elixir counterpart, i suggest the Saša Juric (Elixir in Action) book: again learning form an Elixir alpha-geek that was an Erlang aficionado is a real pleasure.

This book provides a lot of value for its ~100 pages! You'll find a bunch of practical examples of Elixir metaprogramming in the wild. Great for anyone wanting to go beyond the basics and really understand the open-source libraries out there for Elixir or those that want to write their own libs to reuse across projects. Definitely a 5/5!

A must read for any consultant, advisor or trusted confidant, who is working with clients in various areas of expertise (technical, business, political, organizational, etc). The co-authors (Sheth & Schoel) do a great job explaining the role of the advisor, and differences between the "hired hand" or "hired gun" and the trusted confidant and extraordinary advisor. This is a for book in your library!

this is an understated gem of a book. typically you find the core of a book lying within a few chapters but I felt this book was very balanced, each chapter contributing a different perspective to how to create clients for life.the authors illustrated each principle with a real example and its the lives of the great men / women that provides genuine inspiration to go further.as an advertising professional, I like the framework presented here very much, it provides a practical basis for creating solid, long-term client relationships, no fuss, the real meat.

I reread this book every year since I manage to learn something new from it each time. Not only will this book make you a better consultant, it will just make you wiser, period. The lessons and techniques in it should probably be abstracted from consulting somehow, is it could apply to far more relationships and self-development in life.

As a consultant, this book helped me focus on behaviors aimed at building a long-term practice rather than simply going from success-to-success. I say this not to toot my own horn (yes, I've had failures too) but rather because most decent consultants actually do OK--clients are generally happy. We appear to succeed on a regular basis. The great consultants, however, are the ones who build vocal followings...and that's where the value of this work rests.

Book required for work. Eh.

Who has time to read every business book we hear about? I had read what I thought was a thorough (20 page) review of this book and it reasonated with me big time. The book is even better. Pass if you only see clients as 'another transaction,' but if you are passionate your clients and the services you provide to them, this book is for you.

This case book is semi-decent. At least the authors write some of their own pieces, instead of merely copying and pasting other peoples' work, as is the case with most case books. Nevertheless, the book is always "hiding the ball" and never just tells you what the rule is. I know the purpose of a law course is to explore the contours of the law, not just memorize the rules, but sometimes a simple rule does exist, and there is no reason to beat around the bush in that case.

Worst casebook of 1L. Clear political bias, loads of philosophy. Meanders through topics, extreme density. One upside: The paper it's printed on isn't reflective under lots of light, makes it easier to read. That's about it.

Quite used! full of colorful pasters on the side! Well,maybe pasters and dog-ears are just ok and "acceptable", but amazon, you tell me ,what is the uncovering and ragged fabric using for? Could you expect this"fantastic" fabric hold the hardcover for 4 months? Is this truely not a trap for poor students(like me) who are anxious to rent textbooks before classes?

this book is not my favorite at all. even though it provides philosophical information about certain cases and elements, it's not the most reliable book to read. i hate to say this, but it's completely boring...

About the Author

Sanjuanita Martínez-Hunter earned her bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees in Dance from Texas Woman’s University. A life-long educator, Martínez-Hunter began her career teaching physical education at Lamar Junior High School in Laredo, Texas and then at the American School Foundation in Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico. At these institutions she directed the dance teams known as the Lamar Prancers and the Monterrey Darlings while teaching at her own dance studio. Then, she taught at the University of Texas at Austin (UT) as a Dance faculty for over twenty years where she inspired countless students. Here, she was the faculty sponsor for many dance organizations such as the UT High Steppers and El Grupo de Danza y Arte Folklorico de la Universidad de Tejas en Austin also known as the UT Ballet Folklorico. During the politically tumultuous 1970s, Martínez-Hunter was relentless in fighting administration for the acceptance of the UT Ballet Folklorico as a student organization within the Recreational Sports Division. Founding student members of this organization include: Roy Lozano and Michael Carmona. Roy Lozano would go on to dance with the Ballet Folklórico de México de Amalia Hernández and then start his own professional dance company in Austin, Texas called Roy Lozano’s Ballet Folklorico de Tejas. Michael Carmona would direct the UT Ballet Folklorico for many, many years. This writing represents her doctoral dissertation which was completed in 1984 and is entitled The Development of Dance in Mexico (1325-1910). Throughout her life, Martínez-Hunter longed to see her research in print so that it could reach a wider audience. After her death, her niece Gabriela Mendoza-García edited this manuscript as a way of commemorating her life’s work.

Magnificent historical document for all readers interested in Mexican dance history.

The book is an amazing description of the different areas of folklorico dancing and how it has developed over time in history. Easy to read and understand. I love it!

This book is a scholarly and substantiated inquiry into the relationship between Mexican history and Mexican dance, easily readable, with fascinating and documented statements on every page. Each chapter gives an era of Mexican history followed by the relationship between that era's events and its dances.Chapter 1 describes the pre-Columbian use of dance to prepare for or celebrate war or to acknowledge the indigenous pantheon.Chapter 2 describes the conquest and the usurpation of indigenous dance by Spanish missionaries to further Catholic dominion.Chapter 3 describes the Colonial importation of European and African music and dance into the New World and the exportation of dances such as sarabande and chaconne.Chapter 4 describes the Mexico of the dances that most people are familiar with, from 1810 to 1910. Religious dances became theater, and European dances such as waltz, schottische, and polka became the social bailes and jarabes of the people. (Those social dances, two generations later, became folk dances, used today to foster a Mexican national identity.)This is an unusual history of Mexico, with the constant undercurrent of the uses of dance to support a religious or plutocratic oligarchy. It provides a firm overview of Mexican dance history and a grounding for other Mexican dance books that describe specific dances. The late author was a highly respected dance educator, and this book began as her doctoral dissertation. The editor is a dance scholar whose doctoral dissertation discussed the history of the Jarabe Tapatío and its historical context. This book is a tribute to both.

This book is a fantastic reference of the Matilda I and II in the France 40 campaign. It has a ton of pictures, most of which I've never seen. It also has detailed color plates for 7 vehicles, providing a short paragraph on the vehicle and shows their markings. In the Appendix is a table with all the tanks from the 4th and 7th battalions listed with their names, T Serial numbers, Veh Reg Num, Company, and Section. Some of the table info is incomplete since it was not verifiable and they list how the info was verified (photo, movie, etc). An excellent resource for the model builder or anyone interested in the BEF.

The excellent pen-and-ink and watercolor illustrations are large, colorful, and realistic, showing not only the designated diner and intended entr?e, but also a host of other insects, from ladybugs to damselflies, creeping and crawling and flittering about inside and outside of the margins. The closing three pages provide brief, informative paragraphs on each "bug-catcher," emphasizing its hunting methods. Unfortunately, the plethora of prey is largely left unidentified, which will probably lead to frustrating questions from young admirers of this handsome volume. This is a great book. It shows many animals that eat bugs and even shows different bugs people around the world eat at the end. I always looked up videos of people eating bugs to show them afterwards. There are some great ones showing how people find and eat grubs in Australia. It has simple text that any Pre-K teacher can appreciate.

I'd have fived this, but, I'd have liked to see more on people eating bugs. Good overview on how just about everything eats bugs, from plants to people. I used this for a public library storytime, following it up with meal worm rice krispy bars. It was fun.

Spooky for young babies

good book.

I was looking for a book about preparing insects for emergency food. I'd been checking out other books about this and this book was in the middle of other legitimate books about insect preperation and meals. Guess what? didn't do my home work. This is a very short book about rhyming and bugs. A delight for 2nd graders, but not what I wanted. Advice to all...slow down and read the intro's.

My 2 year old son loves this book! The pictures are really great. The book is informative but also fun.

Set in rhyme, this is a great book with large, detailed illustrations. Honestly describes carnivorous creepy-crawlies (not too many details, though). Includes spiders with insects under broad group, all simply called ''bugs.'' Introduces concept of bug-eating humans in places ''where meat is scarce.'' Further explanation (without the confines of rhyme) is given at the end of the book in list form, beside thumbnail pictures of each page. Not for the VERY young (I carefully stressed to my 4 year old that the people who eat bugs prepare them first) or for the child still disturbed by animals eating each other.
