In Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus, Wittgenstein “deals with the problems of philosophy and shows … that the method of formulating these problems rests on the misunderstanding of the logic of our language.”Hence, the author demonstrates that the solution to most philosophic problems becomes a critical method of linguistic analysis.Tractatus begins with ontology and the state of affairs of the world is described. From there the book deals largely with the question of how language works and how it can describe the world accurately. Many forms of language (e.g. names and propositions) reflect different objective parts of reality (e.g. objects and facts). Logic is then discussed as it pertains to tautologies, contradictions and propositions. From this claim stems the conclusion that that the laws of science are not logical “laws,” but a means that we use to express reality—hence, science does not in fact explain our world but merely describes it.Although the author embraces logic, he ironically ventures into the mystical on many occasions. Some of such highlights of Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus include the proposal that most philosophical propositions are senseless (4.003), the relativity of “free” will and the lack of inner necessity of causality (5.1362), and the inability to recognize either the truth or falsehood from non-logical propositions. Wittgenstein brilliantly elaborates on widely accepted, yet wholly non-certain, everyday happenings (6.363II to 6.372) and clarifies that all ethics is transcendental (6.42I). In effect, the author posits that morality is in fact objective because subjective morality stems from happenstance, and is therefore meaningless.All potential readers should be acutely aware that this book is a very, very tough read. You may find yourself taking several minutes to read through one short page and then several hours to digest what it is you in fact just read. Either way, Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus is a terse, powerful, enigmatic and notable in its ability to whisk the dormant imagination into shape. The intellectual ramifications of being able to fully grasp and comprehend the material are limitless.

Amazing read, and recommendable. Wittgenstein tried to spell out precisely what a logically constructed language can (and cannot) be used to say. Its seven basic propositions simply state that language, thought, and reality share a common structure, fully expressible in logical terms.On Wittgenstein's view, the world consists entirely of facts. (Tractatus 1.1) Human beings are aware of the facts by virtue of our mental representations or thoughts, which are most fruitfully understood as picturing the way things are. (Tractatus 2.1) These thoughts are, in turn, expressed in propostitions, whose form indicates the position of these facts within the nature of reality as a whole and whose content presents the truth-conditions under which they correspond to that reality. (Tractatus 4) Everything that is true—that is, all the facts that constitute the world—can in principle be expressed by atomic sentences. Imagine a comprehensive list of all the true sentences. They would picture all of the facts there are, and this would be an adequate representation of the world as a whole. Tractatus, however, not only provides a way to structure our knowledge about the world, but also provokes to develop a critical contradiction with a non-factual or emotioanl sphere of human nature.

I consider this book to be very worth reading because it is associated with an extremely important period in philosophy following the work of Frege, Russell and Whitehead. I found it to be very opaque. Wittgenstein seemed to be struggling with ideas he encountered while considering the work of Frege, Russell and Whitehead. The preface by Russell showed that he considered the work to be very significant. I intend to study more about this, and will probably revise this review later. For now, I would recommend reading the Tractatus, but I did not understand it very well.I think that a primary aim of Wittgenstein in the Tractatus was to address Russell's paradox and other problems of the "language" of logic, as being developed by Frege, Russell and Whitehead at that time. This led him into deep waters with respect to the mysteries of language, and a seeming necessity to set limits, even if these limits were somewhat arbitrary. Certainly some of his insights in this regard were highly penetrating. In particular, he viewed transgressing limits where truth could be adequately assessed as entering a realm of nonsense. I feel that had Gödel's work been available at the time, Wittgenstein might have thought somewhat differently about the limits he perceived. On the other hand, Wittgenstein ignored this work later in the more mature phases of his thinking. I came away from the Tractatus feeling that while it is still of great importance, especially as it was at a historical nexus in the evolution of logic, and displays some profound insights, time has somewhat passed it by.

This appears to be the product of a poor scan and OCR. There are multiple typos per page. Why does this matter more than usual? It's Wittgentein, and he was all about how ideas can and cannot be expressed in language. By introducing errors like this, it renders it almost unreadable.

One of the most influential books of the first half of the twentieth century and alongside Philosophical Investigations sets the standard for analytical philosophy's immense influence on modern theory. Desarae Lee's Portfolio: Beginning Pen & Ink: Tips and Techniques for Learning to Draw in Pen and Ink is an excellent introduction to Pen & Ink drawing. The book is very thorough in the topics covered including tools, terminology, techniques and exercises. The author is very easy to understand and offers step by step instructions for the exercises. The book also includes several beautiful pen and ink drawings which emphasize the topic being discussed.This book is not only a good introduction and instruction book, it would also serve well as a reference book. Ms. Lee offers all the information needed for a beginner to get started, and what's more, makes it seem possible to succeed (with practice)!My thanks to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing for allowing me to read an e-ARC of this book in exchange for an unbiased review. All opinions expressed here are my own.

When I first thumbed through this book, I was struck by the lovely illustrations, the clean and fresh format, and the clear and simple steps given to teach the skills. It's clear that not only is Ms. Lee a talented artist, but she is also a gifted teacher. She walks the reader step-by-step through the process, using her own work as examples. I would buy it for the art alone! But the information is also valuable and concise. Portfolio: Beginning Pen and Ink is a beautiful, beautiful book.

It may not go into the depth that some other books do, but this book more than makes up for it by being very readable. It covers all the major topics necessary for not only pen & ink but also goes over some basics needed for any kind of drawing.I bought this mainly because I very much like the author’s drawing style which is generously spread throughout the book but I found it to be an excellent guide for someone interested in basic pen & ink drawing but possibly not wanting to immerse themselves in more technical guides.I expected this book to be well done because of the author’s talent but it’s even better than I thought it would be.

Young people will find themselves immersed in the magic of FarWorld while at the same time, learning that it is possible to do hard things!For the audio version, Mark Wright does a good job reading the narrative and dialogue, and I enjoyed listening to the story on CD.

I finished reading this book in one day. The writing is good; I didn't want to put it down. However, it's left somewhat of a bad taste. I don't doubt that she loves the Lord, but her practices don't really resonate as ... I can't put it into words. I don't want to downplay her experiences. So much of what she has experienced seems .... Unvalidated? It just doesn't compute as what the Bible teaches. Can God give visions, etc. Of course. Does He give His people desires to do things for Him? Definitely. But I don't know.... It seems there would have been more spiritual growth and more completion of at least one project?I get where she came from when she said no churches would support them because they weren't part of another organization. But honestly, I'm not sure I would have felt comfortable supporting her. There just wasn't a lot of biblical truth behind their desires. She shared her healing testimony, but never shared her actual testimony in the book--nothing about accepting she was a sinner and believing in Christ as her Savior. It is implied and shared in a roundabout way, but much more is said about visions, deep prayer, and her healing.But mostly, the fact that her husband was possessed at one point by a demon rang loud warning bells because "Greater is He that is in you than he who is in the world"!!!! A demon CANNOT possess a chrisian. CANNOT. So this indicates that her husband was never saved and his actions throughout and his background gave no indications that this wasn't the case. Anyone can talk and be sincere and I know that many of the cultures outside the United States mix religions and practice what they want for all. The true barometer for the Christian is a changed life. The author's life changed; I don't see that her husband's ever did.I'm left unsettled. The Lord knows her heart and I believe she is sincere. As a fellow believer, there is something missing or I would come away praising instead of feeling so concerned. That's it! Instead of this book causing me to really think and ponder outside the box, I have come away concerned.

I've not finished reading the book yet, simply because I am a slow reader, but I have only a few chapters left to read. But I have to say that I found the book so hard to put down. I've not read many autobiographies, but have read books about other people's lives, such as biographies on Charles Chaplin, George Lucas, and one about Frank Deford's little daughter, "Alex." All of these books grabbed my attention as did Janice Campbell's book, which I wanted and still want to continue reading and can't wait to get to the end of the book! I've also have read lots of other books by other writers, but mostly fiction such as David Baldacci, Dan Brown, Terry Brooks, JRR Tolkien, and many others, and even though biographies tend not to be my favorite of categories, I found Janice's book captivating and not easy to stop reading.On a more personal level, I am not a religious person, nor am I anything close to an example of what a Christian should be. But I found Janice's book inspirational and encouraging in my own life, as I found I could relate in many of the trials and struggles she faced, not only in relationships, but having traveled to foreign countries and having to adapt to their customs and practices all of which I am a bit unused to. I doubt I've had the extremities she has had, but I can relate to some of her experiences. Her experiences as an imperfect person, with flaws that she is not afraid to write in this book, and still God has blessed her, healed her, and used her as she simply is, to bring Glory to God, is truly inspirational and gives me hope that I am not a total lost cause in life. I think if you read her book, you will find an inspirational story of a normal person who has gone through many trials as many of us do, and find that God still uses us at whatever state we are in, and still does miracles.

This book is one of the most honest I have ever read. The author has a poetic way of putting her feelings, as well as the events she went through. Could I ever get up and leave America to go live in India? I am not that brave. She was not a tourist, she experienced life there. She did not rail at the luxuries she gave up, but she adapted herself to a completely different culture and way of life. Most of the time she was not even aware of the danger she was in. I believe she came away with a different outlook on life. This book is insightful, colorful, intriguing, educational, and I could go on and on. Read it, you'll like it.

I read this book to know more about the remarkable woman, Janice Campbell-Paul, but was still not prepared for how eloquently and beautifully she has shared her life story. Her faith in God and daily relationship with prayer and meditation and fasting has brought her to an ethereal place between a material world and a spiritual world. Her book is honest and sobering, triumphant and brilliant, and so very real.... She has expanded my own awareness of the uplifting transformation that awaits us when we begin a dedicated spiritual path with God.

I bought this book because I met the author and wanted to know her story. I did not expect to be magically transported to another culture viewed with such compassion and honesty and vulnerability. It was an amazing and compelling story even though I am not a religious person. I actually loved that she was a renegade missionary following her calling despite the rejection of organized religions.The whole story is a treasure to read and I kept hoping it would go on longer. It is well-written and well-edited and was just a joy to discover. I’m so glad I picked it up.

A woman healed by Faith travels to India to meet and marry a man she met online and to spread the story of her healing. This memoir is skillfully written and flows beautifully. As expected, the book is full of references to Christianity as that is so important to the narrative. I only found it sad that after 5 years in India, the author seemed to know so little about Hinduism and Islam, as evidenced in some passages of the book. Overall, the book was a fast read and I enjoyed it. I hope the author continues her story in a follow up to this one.

The only planner I use year after year. Peter Pauper Press makes great quality products. Its no wonder they have been in business for decades. It's a very Sturdy planner. Its the perfect size. Plenty of space to write and the pocket in the back of the planner is also convenient for notes and small papers.

So I spend a very long time picking out a planner every year because I am very picky about them and I love this one. While it doesn't have the monthly calendar that I like to fill out for quick glance reference it does have a ribbon bookmark to make it easy to find the current week, and it also has a pocket! As someone who likes to stick receipts and other important bits of paper in my planner the pocket is a huge thing for me. Definitely plan on sticking with this company for my planner needs from now on.

I ABSOLUTLEY ❤️ This planner. The size is perfect and the design is great for bullet style journaling/planning within the confines of a a traditional Weekly 7 day planning.

This simple little planner is great, nice quality and the image on the cover is beautiful. There is no month-to-month section, it just goes day by day, but I actually prefer this because it doesn't interrupt the flow of months. I'm very satisfied with the price for this cute little guy.

This planner is great! The size is perfect, there is plenty of room to write, it's not heavy at all, & the layout for each week is perfect! At the bottom of each page, it shows the layout for the month, which makes a great quick peek without having to turn the page. There is even an attached ribbon to use to mark your place. I'm even impressed with the quality of the cover. I will definitely be sticking with this brand & this type of planner for many years to come!

I love this planned. I use it to plan out my budget. I love that I can plan a year in advance. I looked high and low for a planner that eould allow me to look so far into the future months and I'm so happy I found one. It is great quality and a great price too.

. . . it really needs a two page monthly calendar for each month. I need one place where I can look across weeks to see what evenings are free, what days are already filled to know what is "open" I like the size and feel so I am sure I can find some use for it: store ideas, track artist dates, plan day trips, store recommendations for books, movies, museums or glue fabric samples there to refer to when looking for quilting fabrics. But won't be using it for my primary planner.

I bought this for a gift. I like the size of the book. You can actually lay it flat and read the directions. There are too many recipes your average person doesn’t eat. Like #247 Indian Meen Kulamba. # 183. Holiday Osso Buco. I had to look at the ingredients and still don’t k ow what it is. I don’t want the international recipes. Plain old food Aunt Bee would serve.

I have been using my Instant Pot for a couple of years now.I do not need a book anymore because it becomes easy with practice. I like this book especially for beginners or those who have never used a pressure cooker because it can be overwhelming.This book makes it easy with great step by step instructions followed by easy to make recipes.

If you are passionate about cooking, you deserve an outstanding electric pressure cooker with high performance. Just like when you learned any other new skill, it takes time and patience to get to know your new device. I got this book from Amazon and felt helpful. If you want also cooking helps your kitchen so you can try this guidebook. It has added 500 quick and tasty recipes contains. I recommend this book for everyone. Thanks!

If you were one of the lucky ones who bought an Instant Pot (aka IP) on Prime Day in July, like I did, congratulations. If you found, after taking it out of the box, that it's a little intimidating, join the club. There is definitely a learning curve with the IP but so worth the effort. I immediately went on the hunt for recipes to try and downloaded a bunch of *free* Instant Pot cookbooks. Let the buyer beware, *free* does not equal *good* - many of those books are poorly edited/translated and have serious errors.This cookbook has everything you need to know to use your Instant Pot. The beginning of the book is an introduction to the Instant Pot, to pressure cooking and how to care for your pot. Even though a lot of this information may be found in the Instant Pot manual.The middle of the book has recipes. Some recipes are more involved but many are recipes for cooking basic things (like Chicken Wings) which a newbie like me wanted to learn. Even after cooking for the better part of 45 years, figuring out the settings and times for cooking in the IP makes me feel like a novice. I made the chicken wings this weekend and, from frozen, were fast and delicious. There are recipes for soups, meats, and desserts.The end of the book has the cooking charts for meats, veggies and grains. The index makes it easy to find exactly what you are looking for (like those wings). I highly recommend this book, it has been the best purchase I made since getting my Instant Pot.[...]

I was looking for a basic introduction for my new instant pot and saw this. It might be fine if you simply liked to get ideas for something to cook but not helpful if you are trying to find out how to cook. In my case I wanted to start with a pot roast so I open up the back of the book and find NO INDEX. So I go to the front of the book and find no table of contents either. Finally I find a listing of recipes in the front of the meat section in some kind of random order. There may be some nice recipes in here (to read at your leisure) but it does not serve as a reference or as a primer for the new user.

I bought this because their were 500 recipes for my Instant Pot. There is not a single one worth making. I think an amateur cook wrote this. Hopefully I won't be invited over to her house for dinner.

Extensive collection of recipes for instant pot. Convenient instructions for each recipe. There are recipes for vegetable dishes and side dishes, poultry, pork, beef, fish and seafood, legumes and grains, appetizers, vegan recipes and desserts. I especially like the top 50 recipes for an instant pot. Excellent cookbook, I cook on it daily. It saves my time spent on cooking. Delicious recipes.

We are going to keep and use this cookbook, I bought two of them one for us and one for my niece for Christmas. We were all disappointed that there are no pictures at all in this cookbook! What kind of cookbook is that?
