Natalie Appleton is an award-winning writer whose stories have appeared in publications around the world, including The New York Times. Natalie won Prairie Fire's 2016 Banff Centre Bliss Carman Poetry Award, and her prose has been longlisted for the CBC Creative Nonfiction Contest. Natalie is a graduate of the University of Regina School of Journalism and the MA in Creative Writing (Narrative Non-fiction) program at City, University London, UK. In her former life as a journalist, she worked at newspapers across the Prairies. Natalie lives in the Okanagan, BC, with her husband and two sons.

Judging only from the sample available on Amazon, I'd say that Ms. Appleton was a pretty precocious writer when she was 24 years old. Earnest. Heartfelt. Vastly self-involved. She handles the nuts and bolts of writing pretty well. She paid attention in school. Her product is not unreadable, just, I'm afraid, dull and naïve. And it's not her fault, but she suffers by comparison, as does any expat woman who writes a memoir of Thailand, with "Mai Pen Rai Means Nevermind." It would be almost, I think, impossible to write a better memoir. But I give Ms. Appleton points for effort.
This book cleverly is set up as a travel account with descriptive imagery. I enjoyed the author’s question, of What If. What if life doesn’t always go as one may hope or imagine, but possibilities are many when confronted with facing a new way, or road to be taken. Such growth, learning, and beauty come alive!
