Highest recommendation! This is likely the definitive work on the Panama-Pacific Exposition. There may be other books offering more extensive and detailed information on specific aspects of the fair but for a general overview Ackley's book is as good as it gets. Beautifully produced in a style reminiscent of books of the period. The gold stamping and illustrated cover are worth the price of admission alone. I own a number of books on this fair including a five volume study by Frank Morton Todd. This newest addition ranks right up there with the best of my collection.Growing up in the Bay Area, this exposition has always been a familiar part of San Francisco's colorful history. I can even recall finding old, family postcards depicting different scenes from the fair with the exposition stamps attached. And of course, the breathtakingly, majestic Palace of Fine Arts is an artifact admired by every resident and visitor to this beautiful city.Ackley's book is a serious work of investigative research. But it also affords a very enjoyable quick perusal. The book is loaded with period photos, fair ephemera and memorabilia. As nice a collection as your apt to find between any two covers. 100th anniversaries of notable events often produce a flood of new books but rarely do they achieve the measure of excellence this volume manages. I can't imagine a more inviting coffee-table book for any resident of San Francisco and environs.In addition to "Jewel City", I would also recommend another new book on the P.P.I.E. - "Panorama: Tales from San Francisco's 1915 Pan-Pacific International Exposition" by Lee Bruno. This book is a collection of vintage, fair-related photos reproduced in a large, full page format. It would make the perfect companion to Laura Ackley's magisterial work.

This book is beautiful. I don't know that many are familiar with the Panama Pacific International Exposition of 1915 and the only reason I am is that my father had an original exhibit book from it. Ms Ackley's book has been produced in the same blue cloth cover as the one from 1915 itself. The incredibly detailed research Ms Ackley has done is organized in a thoughtful manner and contains a multitude of historic photographs. But lest one think this is just "history" in the past, she includes interesting details that bring it forward to the present (like the history of the name of the defense contractor Lockheed). Anyone who loves or is interested in San Francisco should be thrilled by this look back to when, less than 10 years after the Great Earthquake of 1906, San Francisco put its best foot forward for all the world to see.

The book is very well written and is a fantastic quality production. Exquisite illustrations, beautifully laid out and a nice balance between excellent text and nicely done (if sometimes a bit small) photographs.

Definitely the book to buy about the Panama-Pacific Exposition. Detailed research, good writing, logical presentation, new insights, thorough and balanced coverage of the people, politics and components that made it one of the greatest world's fairs. Beautifully formatted. New information about the fair from planning to demolition, supported with wonderful photographs rarely or newer seen before. If you get only one book about the PPIE, this is the one to get.

Wow. This isn't just a book, it's a special project, a labor of love -- it shows on every page. Enjoying it tremendously.

I was born 50 years too late and in the wrong state, so I missed out on this exhibition. This book is the next best thing to being there. Well-written and lots of interesting photos. Obviously written, edited, and published as a labor of love. Congrats to all involved!

This is such a lovely book! I haven't read it all yet but I am reading the section on the lighting. Fascinating and amazing, especially for the time. For anyone interested in San Francisco history or history of the world's expositions this is definitely the book for you.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Ms. Ackley's account of the Panama-Pacific Exposition. Her writing style and her attention to detail about this historic event make this a pleasant read, and also satisfies my inner history nerd. The book was an excellent and easy read, it has helped me reignite my relationship with God. The overview above it point on! I am a single (in a committed relationship) female with no children, sometimes Bible Studies are only intended for busy wives/homemakers and mothers. I found this very helpful for my Christian Walk. While some of the examples did not apply directly to me, it was still a wonderful experience that has left me renewed. I also purchased the workbook. Being a very busy woman, sometimes Christ takes the back seat. This gives a great reality check to that and renews his place as first in your life. Meditating in the word is most important to any Christian. Being raised in church and even attending private christian school for most of my life, I still get away from the daily word. The book and workbook are an excellent way to reorganize and regain that daily ritual. Lysa Terkeurst understands this lack of spiritual mediation all too well. Terkeurst is the author of a dozen best-selling Christian women's books, and the president of Proverbs 31 ministries. Even though she is a VERY busy woman and has a job that i dearly envy, she is able to take whatever comes her way. Zondervan published the book in 2009, however it is still very relevant to today's culture and experience. She does not come across as an expert, she remembers dearly when she was in the readers shoes and does not look down or speak in a condescending manner. Again probably intended for the busy mother and wife, I was very much blessed by this book and her testimony.

We read this book as a Bible Study and it wasn't very motivating for me. I thought it was my age, perhaps, but the younger girls said it was hard to be motivated to read it for them too. It was hard to use as a Bible Study book as there are NO questions at the end of the chapters which makes it hard on a leader to figure out what the questions should be. I now see there is a DVD and a workbook that we should have used. Not sure how much better it would have been but at least there's a leader guide and DVD's with the Author teaching.

I liked the book so much I decided to get the study guide and do it with the young lady I disciple. She showed an interest in it, and I thought it would benefit her as well. Lysa Terkeurst is one of my favorite female Christian authors. I love how she is vulnerable and shares her own stories to help others grow from what she has learned. I'd highly recommend getting the book and study guide, and all of her books that I have read are amazing!

Again, I am always amazed with Amazon, both cost of books, and fast shipping. I bought this for a companion of the book. I will be taking a class through Proverbs 31 women, starting at the end of this month.Actually, I have read all of Lysa Terkeurst, she is both a wonderful writer about women of faith, but she is also writes in real life terms that I believe all of us women need..😉

I did this study on my own,without the videos. I was doing this from afar with my Bible study group. Having the videos would have been helpful, but I also read the book along with it, which helped. As with most studies there are always things to learn and new insights to glean. Lisa relates some different ways to understand your reactions to situations....many related to being a wife and a mom.

I have done several of Lysa's studies, but this one really speaks to all the women in my group. It is about real life challenges...how we deal with relationships (spouse, kids, friends), feeling insignificant, how our "things" make us feel important and it all points back to God and how he can help us overcome feelings of poor self worth. We just completed Session 3 so I don't know what lies ahead, but I'm sure it's good stuff :)

Hi, I ordered the digital copy for my smart phone thinking this would be usable in my study. Unfortunately, it is not. While I can view most of the material, it only shows me a percentage of completion at the bottom, and I had no way of knowing what page we were on during the study, rendering it useless to me really. I also didn't realize the need for the hard copy due to note taking, etc. I have now purchased the hard copy of the participant's guide for our study. I wish I had been warned of this, because I cannot use the digital version. Could you exchange the digital version of the participant's guide for the digital version of the book? I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks so much and I look forward to this study!

After signing up for an online bible study of this book with Proverbs 31 Ministries, my bible study group at work chose to read this book for our next study. We will finish the book on Thursday and we have all enjoyed the book. Lysa Terkeurst is an excellent writer who shares her own life experiences with the reader as a way to demonstrate the principles she is teaching while backing it all up with scripture. As one of my friends stated at the beginning of our study, you feel like you are listening to a friend share from her heart right from the introduction of the book.

This book is terrible. It reads like someone took the notes they’d copied and pasted from online sources in preparation for this book, and then just decided the notes were the book and published as is. It’s hard to read, hard to identify a clear, coherent idea in any paragraph, section, or chapter, and hard to imagine what I’m getting from this that’s any different than spending the time I’ve spent trying to read just googling the topics one by one instead. A jumble of cut-and-paste. Truly awful and I wish I had my money and time back.

Well, I thought I understood AI and ML. Before even reaching the half way point in the book, I was immediately confronted with the fact that my understanding of this field was about as poor as Jamie Dimon's understanding of bitcoin. Brigette Hyacinth has created a well written, very easy to understand book that takes a true educator's approach to teaching AI. Her chapter on Fintech, a topic I am currently pursuing a Masters degree in, is immediately up to date and accurate, demonstrating a deep understanding of this rapidly emerging field as well. Many times I had to recheck the publication date as her information seemed as fresh as the material in the news just yesterday and in my classes this past few weeks. I encourage anyone who plans to be around five years from now to read this book and then plan to learn more and more to prepare for the future described by this visionary with both feet firmly on the ground and a vanishing point clearly in the futures. She clearly sees the tsunami approaching and has sound ideas for the rest of us to prepare.

Wow! I really love this book. It talks about all the things I heard about in science fiction movies as a kid. The author covers many areas of artificial intelligence an how it is being used now and in the future. Reminds me of the movie Terminator. (One of my favorites) This is a must read for anyone who likes science that is "not fiction."

The Future of Leadership is a cautionary tale of finding the balance between accepting the rise of automation, robotics, and artificial intelligence, and remaining human. Using our moral compass, the book portends, we can navigate this fourth industrial revolution with aplomb. The caution within stresses misguided novelties and the ever-present profit before people may be a self-fulfilling prophecy of fearing this new digital world, and that unchecked, it just may take over.However, it is Brigette's easy-to-read, large print font, broken up by bullet points and graphics that also makes this book a great guide for future leaders. Not only is it well researched, it also provides actionable tasks that can be accomplished by every one of us - the leaders of our own lives as it were. Recommended reading for those in leadership positions, those seeking leadership positions, governments, inventors, innovators, and anyone interested in the human side of the rise of automation, robotics, and artificial intelligence.

I just finished reading Brigette Hyacinth’s book. I can’t commend her enough for this masterpiece. She was able to fit decades’ worth of knowledge into less than 300 pages full of fascinating insight.The book addresses questions concerning automation, robotics, and AI. Imagine the pros and cons of self-driving cars... imagine showing up to work one day and finding out that your new boss is a robot... how about this: you get pulled over and to your surprise, Robocop is the authorized officer...How will advances in technology change the global workforce? What industries will be affected the most? Can we trust AI when it comes to decision-making? What will the future of medicine and biology bring? Great book, very informative but, also very scary of the changes we are to experience within the next 10 years. I work in an IT school without any IT knowledge. Thanks to this book, as a 50 year old male I am now enrolling to attend an evening class in Information Technology to prepare for my immediate future.
