RecommendationsThis looks like a rock-solid method to use, start to finish. My main critique is this: This plan is essentially theoretical in the sense that most analysts need to fit into the environment that their manager has created for the department. For example I was once given a very large data set and told simply to find the significant patterns (very challenging). I hope people in positions of leadership can get a hold of this book and learn the correct steps for analysis.

Every HR practitioner who wants to keep their job in the future needs to read this book.This book lays out a very pragmatic framework for solving business problems using straight-forward business analytic and has direct application for HR leaders and practitioners. HR needs to figure out ways to measure the impact that people have on business strategies and should be asking themselves "are we using data to solve our most critical human capital issues?". Not only does the book help lay out a good solid model it also addresses more complex approaches to data analytics but does so in a way that puts it in the right place. We tend to think that predictive analytics is the future. But predictive analytics and other more complex analyses are only needed a small fraction of the time.One more point. I have a PhD from Stanford and was struggling to apply what I had learned about research to business world realities. The business world does not give you 3-5 years to solve a problem. At best you get a few weeks. The book was the perfect bridge between my academic thinking and training and how to apply what I had learned in grad school to the business world.

This book is written primarily for novice and intermediate analyst or the business person looking to dig a little deeper into the benefits an analytics project can deliver.. It takes an excellent, well structured (surprised?) approach to analytics. Jain offers a straight-forward end-to-end process for developing and executing an analytics project. Cédric Gras’ excellent L'hiver aux trousses (Essais - Documents) (French Edition) concerning his travels in the Russian Far East has proven to be the impetus to read more of Chekhov’s plays, before I tackle his substantial account of his own Far Eastern travels, Sakhalin Island (Alma Classics) . I just read and reviewed Uncle Vanya. Chekhov’s life was relatively short, dying from tuberculous at the age of 44. His essential plays were written in the last decade of his life. “The Seagull” was first produced in 1896.Artists, their aspirations, tribulations, insecurities, and given the human condition, conflicts, as they search and attempt to convey, the deeper meaning of life. That is the central theme in “The Seagull.” There is a play within a play. As was common before the digital age, in the rural areas of Europe, in the 19th century, writing and producing plays was a common past time, on the estates where the peasants produced enough “surplus value” to permit the landowners a bit of “surplus time.” I often think of the theater that was built into the rather modest chateau of George Sand, with sitting capacity for 20, at most.Constantine Treplieff is 25 years old; he is insecure with his life’s accomplishments. He barely got through college, and must grow up in the shadow of his now deceased father, a famous actor. He has written a new play. It is to be produced outside, yet the attendees are probably only 10 or so. A stage has been built for the occasion, with a curtain that will be pulled, to reveal the rising moon on the other side of the lake. Chekhov provides enough of the dialogue to reveal that it is rather execrable, with all life having vanished from the earth, yet everything is in one grand cosmic union.Irina Abkadina is Constantine’s mother. Speaking of insecurities, she pretends to be 32 years old when he is not around; in actuality, she may only be 42. She was also an actress. The play is produced on the estate of her brother, Peter Sorin, who is in his 60’s. The principal actress in this play within the play is Nina Zarietchnaya, who is the sometimes chaperoned daughter of a rich landowner, who decries the “Bohemian” atmosphere at the Sorin’s estate. Chekhov provides a representative of other stock character-types in rural 19th Century Russia: There is an impoverished school teacher, Simon Medviedenko; Chekhov himself was a country doctor, so he includes one – Eugene Dorn, who is in his 50’s; Shamraeff and his wife are the managers of the estate, extracting that “surplus value,” and they have a daughter, Masha. Boris Trigorin is an accomplished writer, yet another person that makes Constantine insecure.Enough characters to attend an outdoor play, and for Chekhov to stir the pot with, in terms of their relationships. Coleridge’s poem resonates across the Russian steppe, almost a century after its publication. Don’t kill albatrosses, and don’t kill seagulls; such actions are indeed bad omens. Chekhov remains the quintessential observer and chronicler of 19th century rural Russian life. It is a good play, yet I find those artist squabbles can veer towards the tedious. Overall, 4-stars.

As some people have said, this is not for you if you are looking for a bit of "light reading". However, it is very well written, and this is a wonderful translation. It is certainly something that will stay with you for a few days after you are finished. Personally, I found it a bit hard to get into at first, but after a couple of pages, I was hooked through to the very end. "In all the universe nothing remains permanent and unchanged but the spirit."It is a story of life. The characters are not heroic, they are simply people who are muddling their way through life, dealing with disappointments, seeking approval, and above all, wanting to be loved. It contains tragedy, for sure, but also contains comedy. It isn't the "in your face" obvious comedy that we have grown so accustomed to, but it is still bright and refreshing.If you enjoy Russian literature, this is certainly one to add to your list. If you don't, or if you don't have much experience with it, and are looking to expand your reading horizons, this might be a good one to start with. The translation is wonderful and makes for an enjoyable introduction for the uninitiated.

I am in the period of my life that I am trying to read more of the classics.Chekhov's "Seagull" is a four act play where there is a continuum of love triangles wherenobody ends up with whom he/she desires. The rating is a four plus as itthe does an excellent presentation of all the base natures such as being self centered,unable to face thereal world, goals unfulfilled.. The reason it did not rate a five was it was hard to understand.I am familiar with Russian writers and have had this problem before. Also Chekhov's main actions occuroff stage. I read the play twice using a study guide in between. Once I fully understood the author'sdirection it was an incredible read, especially act iv

Only the Russians would consider a play about unrequited love and suicide a comedy.

The Seagull is my favorite Chekov's play. I like Uncle Vanya, The Cherry Garden, Three Sisters and others too, but The Seagull stands out. I just wish they staged it better here in the U.S.

I wanted to read this play before attending a performance given by our local theatre company. I enjoyed this adaptation immensely and it help me appreciate the production and its complexity.

This rating is not for the play, but for the book. This is a print on demand book that has spelling errors on the back cover. I am going to have to find an authentic copy to make sure that the content that I am reading is correct.

Happy that I picked up this guide for my trip. It has just enough detail and recommendations for any type of traveler. I previously picked up the Ulitmate Guide, which is likewise good, but it a bit more oriented to the adventure type of traveler. It is useful but was not what I was looking for ultimately.On the other hand, the Foder guide was just what I needed -- it has a diverse variety of activities, and the 8-day itinerary is spot-on for what I really wanted. I certainly will use the Ultimate Guide -- especially for its local & cultural insights -- but it's the Fodor Guide that I will be taking with me.

Generally I like Fodor's guide books but was disappointed in this one. Yes, it has beautiful color photos. But guess what?? There are NO CAPTIONS on some of the photos so you don't know where on Kauai they were taken (e.g. page 1, which I think might be a double page spread of Queen's Bath. Also I found that the book is heavy on general items that could be in any guide book for Hawaii (a page on how to snorkel, history of Hawaii, etc) and light on "hidden gems" and comprehensive listings. The index is also very light - and I found it useless when trying to quickly find something. Friends said a book called Kauai Revealed (currently #1 under Hawaii guide books) is much better so I'd check that out next time. Also one called "Hidden Kauai"....Here are a few of our own tips:- Drive to Waimea Canyon in the morning before the clouds roll in. Amazing views. Drive ALL THE WAY to the end of the road and then work your way back. Many see the first few overlooks and turn around. The end of the road has amazing views of the Napali Coast.- Get to go food at Ishihara Market in Waimea at the back deli counter (amazing ahi poke, kim chee, banana nut bread) and take it to Salt Pond Park and eat on a picnic table, amazing view, amazing food, cheap. For a more upscale experience go to one of the Dolphin Fish take out bars in Poipu or Hanalei.- Our favorite restaurant was Keoki's Paradise in Poipu. It's sort of like eating in Disneyland's Tiki Room, but great food, great service, and fair prices. Also sushi rolls in the bar at Red Salt, hamburgers by the pool same place, nice expensive dinner at the St. Regis at the Makana Grill (ask for outside table, don't overdress, we did).- Best supermarket is the one Safeway on the island (we went to Big Save and were pretty appalled at the poor quality of the prouce). There is a nearby Foodland that also looks nice.- Allow plenty of time at the airport on the way back. We had ZERO line but later we saw terrible lines after a flight cancelled. They aren't staffed to handle crowds when things go wrong.I don't think any of these tips were in the guide book, and ultimately most guide books are just a starting place. The best ones though you find yourself looking at over and over in the car.... this one, we read once and then left it in our condo.Enjoy and aloha!

This another of our favorite guides to use when on vacation. Truthful, helpful and full of interesting information. Completely easy to use and understand. We enjoy being informed of the most wonderful things to do and see whenever we go on vacation and this book helped a great deal. We really liked how informative and truthful it was written. We will use this again and you should give it a try.

I studied this book in preparation for a presentation I made to an organization I belong to, proposing a conference on Kauai. It worked for that purpose, and having used other Fodor's guides for other trips (Santa Fe, for example), I anticipate that the detailed maps, reviews and descriptions will come in handy when I go to Kauai..

We took this book on our Kauai Vacation and found the information accurate and extremely helpful. We would recommend it to anyone planing a trip to Kauai. The restaurants recommended were truly 5 star, as well as the beaches and directions.

Fodor's guide to Kauai is excellent - highlights what to see and do on the island and gives spot-on recommendations for restaurants, hotels, tours, and shopping. I always try to have a guide like this with us when we travel.

Great book. Full map of the island, place to write notes in the back, very informative. I bought it for my second trip to island and though fairly well educated about it already, learned new things and found new places to see via Fodor's Kauai. Good purchase.

The Watermelon Seed by Greg BazoliAudio book about a seed. A crocodile imagines what happens when he does swallow the watermelon seed.I received this book from National Library Service for my BARD (Braille Audio Reading Device).

This book is attractively illustrated both for adults and for children. My toddler enjoyed looking at the funny crocodile. However, the story is VERY basic (we have a 22-month-old), and I'm also worried that it might create an irrational fear of eating fruit or veggies that have seeds. (This crocodile swallows a watermelon seed and thinks it's going to grow a melon in his belly, and he's going to turn into a melon, and he has a panic attack.)We already have enough issues getting our toddler to eat fruits and veggies, the last thing we need is irrational fears of seeds in them. (And if this is for older kids who completely understand the humour of it and eat well, then it again missed the mark because it's very, very basic. Almost too basic for a 2-year-old.)We love reading, and we're desperate to find more books of the Mo Willems quality, but I'm starting to lose hope.

This book will be a forever wonderful memory in our family because this is one of the two books my daughter fell in love with and was part of the duo of books she insisted be read to her every evening before bed. This is the first book that she likes to point and repeat the words out loud to so this story truly engages her from cover to cover. We first borrowed this book from the library and now we have our own copy for my daughters growing library.

Great illustrations, great idea for a book, but it falls a bit flat at the end.It would have been better to have the character understand that swallowing a seed is OK, vs the path it took (could have been a good learning opportunity for kids).OK, but there are better children's books.

This is a super cute story, perfect for early readers.The length is just right for bedtime reading, and the story is amusing enough for anytime/fun-time reading.At the heart of it is a dilemma most any kid has experienced (and for which the resolution never ceases to entertain).

Cute funny simple book! The colors are awesome, fun story. I remember as a child one of my older cousins telling me that if I swallowed a watermelon seed it would grow in my stomach. I remember the fear laying in bed worrying. Hilarious! My 3 year old was laughing throughout this book.

I read this to my library classes grades K-2 and they loved this book. The kids made their own "watermelons" using half a paper plate and crayons. This book is definitely one I will use as a read aloud again!

My kids love this book. After checking it out from the library numerous times we finally added it to our home collection.
